Last year's ultimate Star Wars toy, is even more magical with the addition of the Force Band, a smart-wearable that lets you control the droid with arm gestures.  The Force Band is available separately if you already have a Sphero BB-8, or as part of a special edition bundle.

Now you can direct the RC robot like a Jedi, pushing it forward and controlling its speed, as if by the Force.

While the little droid is generally promoted for its cuteness and RC capabilities, the best thing about BB-8 and all the Sphero devices is the ability to program them visually.  Long after the novelty of the toy fades, BB-8 can be a gateway to what Obi-Wan might have called "a bigger universe".  Becoming a Jedi programming master may take some parental help and encouragement; it is not featured prominently (and last year wasn't verified as being available at all in this toy).  But, everything you need to get started is on-line.  That stealth-learning functionality is what gives this  toy its true  raison d'être.
