Imagine a Ken doll made of solid chocolate roughly the size and shape of a vibrator. Its smooth chest and smiling face gently glistening through a plastic portal. The pink polka-dotted box dripping with double entendre proclaims, "Ken Satisfies All My Cravings." Next to it is another chocolate confection that says "Insert Boyfriend Here". You'd be forgive if you thought that these suggestive products were sleezy novelty Barbie knock-offs, gag items for a bachellorette party or the front counter of a sex store, the sort of products that results in a cease and desist letter from Mattel's legal department complaining of irreperable harm to the intellectual property of the Barbie brand. You'd be wrong. In fact these are official products authorized by Mattel, sold under the Dylan Candy Bar line, and on display at the 2011 Toy Fair in New York. Part of the fun of the Barbie universe has always been its flirtation with sexuality. Ken is, after all, her boyfriend. But, do licensed products like these cross the line?
