It amazes me that it took this long, but one of my favorite writer's best novels, Snow Crash, is finally coming to the screen. Author Neal Stephenson is credited with coining the term "avatar" in this trippy exploration of language as a virus, corporate culture as a menace, and reality as a thing and its cyber-double.

Now, according to deadline.com Joe Cornish (director of the indy-sci-fi-invasion pic "Attack the Block") has been tapped to bring Hiro Protagonist to the big screen. Kathleen Kennedy and Kennedy/Marshall will be producing.

If you haven't read the book yet, go grab a copy and enjoy some of the most fun summer reading you'll have this year. Stephenson's imagination was on overdrive as he grappled with big ideas, alternate realities, and hilarious set pieces. This is a book about the cyber-geek, sword wielding, pizza delivery guy in all of us. Read it before the movie (and inevitable spoiler-verts) spoil the great surprises within.
